Reviewed by Tommy Age 4

This book is so funny. It is written in two different styles – one printed darker than the other. I read the darker print in a deep voice and the rest in a soft voice. The contrast between the Big Bad Bunny and the nice Mouse family really interested us. We read this book so many times, we can quote lines without looking!

My son really liked reading this book. He enjoyed the colorful pictures, the big “funny” words the mud made when it “ate” the trucks. He thought it was the “bestest” whenever the kids came and saved the day and made all kinds of stuff out of the mud. He thought the pictures of the kids and the mud pies, cakes, pizzas and stuff were funny.

We love this book because it’s similar to The Night Before Christmas and that is one of our favorites. We like the rhyming words. It’s a funny book. The dog Pete is our favorite character.

Susan Ring Mickey’s Campout 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Andrew and parent Age 2

We love this book because it is one of the books that my son will sit all the way through while I read it to him. It catches his attention due to its interactive nature. It also has pictures in the sentences which will help him later when he begins to read. It also came with flash cards to use to introduce words or play a matching game.

Al Perkins The Ear Book 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Ian Age 5

I liked this book because it’s funny when the teacher picks up the apple Fluffy took a bite out of and she says, “Eeewww”! I liked the Big Food Bowl and Giant Carrot star pictures. This is a good read aloud book.

Reviewed by Mackenzie Age 9

The funniest part was when Eddie and Howie throw snowballs at the girls. My friends should read this book because the dragon comes to life. And because everybody in their school has to sleep in the gym. Yes, I would like to meet one of the characters. I would like to meet Liza.

Suzanne Williams Ten Naughty Little Monkeys 4 Star Review

I read this book to my 9 month and 2 year old. The two enjoy the colorful illustrations and the rythmn of the story. Ten Naughty Little Monkeys expands on the rhyme “No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed”. Very fun to read.

Reviewed by Brooklinn Age 8

My friends should read the book because of all the friendship. I would love to meet all of the characters. The saddest part is when Pelli lost one of her chicks named Bell in a horrible storm but, found her in the sixth kingdom. The funniest part was when Mrs. P fell and Digger caught her and almost fainted because her tail fell off. The scariest part was when they flew through a windkin and almost got killed but they lived.

Reviewed by Anya Age 7

This book is about the ABC’s. It is funny because the girl in the story hugs animals and funny things happen when she hugs them. The brother takes pictures of her and there are rhyming words in this book. This book is silly, too.

Julie Aigner-Clark Neighborhood numbers 5 Star Review

I liked that Sylvia Jean always wore costumes. Her costumes were neat. I also liked when she went to the party that nobody could find her because none of them had ever seen her not dressed up in a costume. I was excited when she won all of the costumes.

A bug named Joe is part of a troop of 25 bugs. The bugs are trying to find a marching formation where all their lines are even. Joe is often the odd-bug out. One day they finally discovered the correct formation so Joe could be included. This is a fun book about division.

Reviewed by Joy Age 9

Ruby is a fairy that gets trapped under a pot at the end of the rainbow. Two friends find her and the friends got to find her sisters or Fairyland will lose it’s colors forever.

Laura Ingalls Wilder On the Banks of Plum Creek 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Daria Age 10

This book is written by Miley Cyrus and it describes her personal and famous life so far. It talks about her family, how she got the part of Hannah Montana, her first tour and her life in Hollywood. The best part of the book was when she talked about St. Louis as one of her favorite tour stops. My friends should read this book if they like Miley Cyrus or want to know about her crazy life. I would want to meet Miley Cyrus because I like her music and shows. This book was really good.

Anakin won the race and Sebulba lost. When they were racing I liked when Anakin tricked Sebulba. After the race Anakin had to leave his mother and went to Padame’s ship to become a Jedi.

When horsemen come and try to kill Cecilia, she goes to the capital city to take her place on the throne. Harper, her best friend goes with her. At the palace, Desmia thinks she is a threat.

This post is the last of the reviews from the 2008 Summer Reading Program. We have over 4000 reviews from the 2009 Summer Reading Program and will start posting those next month. It’s been fun and I want to thank all of the great kids and parents that turned in these great book reviews. Once again I hope you find that special book to enjoy from this short list of reviews.

Betty Burford Chocolate By Hershey 4 Star Review

Reviewed by Marissa Age 9

Chocolate By Hershey was a very interesting book. Milton S. Hershey was a farm boy in Pennsylvania. He loved candy. When he grew up, he wanted to make some candy for children. Then he went to Canada with his mother and saw children take chocolate covered caramels, lick off the chocolate and throw the caramel away. Milton found it! He would make chocolate! He sold his caramel business and started his well known Hershey Chocolate business! All over the USA Hershey chocolate is still eaten today. Milton also built Hershey Town Pennsylvania. You can go and see that today too. Milton lived to be a good old age of 88, and was very engaging to read about. I think other children my age would like to read about Milton Snavely Hershey.

Lois Lowry Anastasia, Absolutely 4 Star Review

Reviewed by Samantha Age 9

The funniest thing about Anastasia, Absolutely was when Anastasia called her family the wishy washy family. Anastasia, Absolutely is an awesome book. It’s humor is overflowing. You should read this book because it makes you laugh. You’ll find it entertaining and hard to resist.

Mercer Mayer The New Fire Truck 4 Star Review

Reviewed by Aidan & parent Age 3

Aidan and I both enjoyed reading this book together. He liked the car wash best because he loves to help wash the cars. He liked the idea that the dog’s name was Fluffy. Aidan pointed out that his cat’s name is Fluffy too! His favorite part of the book was seeing the shiny new Fire Truck!

Peggy Rathman 10 Minutes till Bedtime 5 Star Review

This book helped Gage in recognizing his numbers. Since there were not very many words, we got to make up some of the story. It also let us discuss the importance of our nighttime routine. We would recommend this book to parents of toddlers. My 4 year old enjoyed it when he was 2-3 as well. The illustrations are very colorful and fun to look at. It has many different opportunities for learning throughout the book!

Peter Eastman Fred and Ted Go Camping 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Andrew & parent Age 6

This book was fun to read for Andrew and myself. He was able to read most of the text himself, which made him feel good. The illustrations were funny and made the story even more enjoyable. Crazy things kept happening to Ted and Fred on their camping trip, so finally they gave up. It was great for learning opposites. We liked this book a lot and had fun reading it over and over.

Wade & Christopher love that a little boy was running a donut shop for his uncle & that a “fancy” lady lost her diamond in a donut! Wonderful author! This is a great read-aloud for 3 – 6 year olds! LOVED IT!

This is Caleb’s favorite book on his library list. It’s great for any kid who likes ATVs. Caleb loves looking at the pictures and it gives safety instructions on ATVs. Caleb – ATVs are cool! ATVs can go fast. They can jump. They can go in sand.

This is my son’s all time favorite book. It has helped fuel his love for trains. The text of this book is simple, so he has memorized it and reads it along with me. The illustrations too, are very simple but vibrant. It is a fantastic read aloud for both toddlers and preschoolers.

I would highly recommend this book as a read aloud. My son is 3 and doesn’t sit still for too long. This kept his attention well. He loves to play hide and seek himself, so listening to a story about 5 little ducks playing this game kept his attention. The illustrations are absolutely adorable!

Reviewed by Marissa Age 3 1/2

Our favorite is Maisy At the Fair. The book showed a roller coaster, a big slide, a ferris wheel, a bounce house and a merry-go-round. Maisy had a beautiful time at the fair. We would like to go to that fair, too.

I liked the part when he put on the diaper and the diaper fell off. That happened right when he showed his mom. I like when she was first born. Yes, I think other people should read this book. It is funny.

Reviewed by Adam Age 2

Froggy’s Baby Sister is a funny book about how Froggy wants to take care of his new sister. Froggy enjoys figuring out how to take care of the new baby. A great part of the book was when Dolly’s diaper fell off. This is a good book for little kids because it is funny. It also has good illustrations.

Mercer Mayer Just Grandma and Me 5 Star Review

We enjoyed the book because it was really cool. Some parts were funny. The little boy buried his grandma in the sand! I would tell all of my friends to read this book. It’s funny and has a lot of pictures. The pictures were very colorful and there were a lot of animals. I love this book because it’s about a little boy with his grandma at the beach.

Reviewed by Evan Age 5 5 Star Review

I like this book because I like the page with the mummies on it. I like when the dinosaur bone is found buried under the ground. I think the dog buried it there. The bear detectives followed the footprints.

Paulette Bourgeois Franklin’s Blanket 5 Star Review

Seth has a blanket (snuggle) he loves. He takes it everywhere. Franklin doesn’t want anyone to know he has a blanket, but he needs it to sleep. It is great to know he is not alone. Franklin is a great way for kids to find out they are just like others – even Franklin.

Reviewed by Andrew Age 2

Andrew is learning his numbers and we enjoyed the counting in this book. This book is great to read aloud because your child can hear and see the numbers at the same time. This allows them to make a connection with the sound and print. Boynton makes all of her books a blast to read because she rhymes and used fun animals in her pictures. Andrew and I enjoy reading this book on a weekly basis!

Reviewed by Reuben & parent Age 10 months

This and other sign language books are fun as we are learning sign language as a family. The children doing the signing makes it fun for my son to look at and as a board book, he can “read” it on his own and not damage it. The books are a nice size for picking up. Also, we could keep rereading the book together as there weren’t too many words on a page.

Rosemary Wells The Gulps 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Mallorie Age 3

Our favorite book we’ve read this summer is “The Gulps”. “The Gulps” is about a family that learns about eating healthy and exercising. Because the family eats too much junk food they can’t do all the things they would like to. Mama Gulp thinks if you wish for something it might happen but Dawn teaches her mom that you have to work hard to make good things happen. ” The Gulps” is a fun book!

Mary Pearson Pickles in my Soup 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Macy age 6

She liked this book because of all the food she put pickles on. I loved watching her face when she put pickles on her favorite foods. Some combinations she might even try. This would be a good book to read out loud because most kids are picky eaters and would get a kick out of this combination on food.

Reviewed by Hannah Age 6

Hannah and I like this book because she knows how to read it. We would read it out loud so everyone can enjoy the story of Cinderella and now she has her dreams come true. Cinderella gets to dance with the Prince. There are colorful pictures.

Theo LeSieg Wacky Wednesday 5 Star Review

We thought that “Lucy on the Loose” was a great book for both boys and girls. Lucy has very funny adventures with her friend trying to find adventures. One of the best parts was when Lucy chases the cats. This could remind any reader who has pets of their own.

Reviewed by Luke Age 6

We enjoyed the big tree that pops out of the book at the end of the story. We would recommend this book because the illustrations were beautiful as well as the story. The story teaches about friendship and teamwork. It was fun to read because of the mystery of what was going to happen to the tree which was the animals home. Were they going to lose their home? The story had a wonderful ending.

Reviewed by Kendall Age 2 1/2

We enjoyed reading this book because my daughter was able to anticipate what came next and “read” along. The repetitive rythmic nature of this book makes it an excellent choice for a read along book. After only a couple of readings, my daughter began to “fill in the blanks” and be a part of the story-telling experience. This book is asked for often in our home.

I hope you enjoyed the reviews and find a fun animal book to end your summer with.

The summer is halfway over and our Summer Reading Program is almost over. We are finishing up the reviews from last year, only a few hundred left after almost 3000. I hope you enjoy these and maybe one of them will be your next summer read. We’ll be rolling out the new reviews from this summer reading program soon, they look so interesting.

Mary Ann Hoberman Mary Had a Little Lamb 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Kaydence Age 22 months

My daughter loved this book because it was sung to her as well as pictures to look at. This book is great for her age because its silly and she danced the whole time I read it to her. The funniest part was when the Lamb had to read in front of the class and all it said was BAAAA. I would recommend this book to read out loud because it gets your child involved with singing and dancing.

Elizabeth MacLeod I Heard A Little Baa 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Evan Age 21 months

This is a very cute book for preschoolers. A 3 or 4 year old would have fun guessing the next animal based on the “clues”. The rhymes and rhythm of the words are excellent language lessons.

David Shannon David Smells! 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Drew Age 1

We laughed at all of the pictures! We could relate to these things happening in our house!

Peggy Rathmann Good Night Gorilla 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Cole Age 3.5

I really like the gorilla. I like that the Gorilla lets all of the animals our of their cages. Cole

The ability of creative thinking and storytelling comes alive in this book because of the limited amount of words. Cole loves to read this book because we can change up how the story plays out. Everytime we read “Goodnight Gorilla” we find something new to add to the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone of any age.

Clare Beaton Daisy Gets Dressed 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Lauren Age 3

Awesome and unique illustrations made of fabric, sequins, buttons and beads. A perfect book for children learning to dress themselves. The book was also a fun look and find shapes and patterns book. It was also the perfect length to hold small children’s attention.

Iza Trapani I’m A Little Teapot 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Logan Age 3

It is a very cute book about a teapot sharing his dreams with the children in the book. In his dreams he goes on many different adventures such as pirates at sea on a windy day and flying like a spaceship in the sky. The story rhymes throughout making it even more enjoyable. The illustrations were very cute and fun, creating the desire to be there.

Jarrett Krosoczka Bubble Bath Pirates 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Regan Age 3

We enjoyed reading “Bubble Bath Pirates” because we sometimes play pirates at home and Daddy makes great pirate voices. It was fun to read the pirate parts in a pirate voice. The pictures were large and colorful. The story ended with our favorite bedtime snack…ICE CREAM!

Andrew Clements Slippers at Home 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Katie Age 3

We enjoyed this book because it was about a doggy – and Katie loves doggies. It is a good read aloud book because it has a nice rhythm. The illustrations in this book are very colorful and simple and yet add to the story. We have read other “Slippers” books in the past and this is our favorite.

Kit Allen Slide, Already! 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Dean Age 3

This was a fun book to read. It was silly and we could make all the fun sound effects. It was easy to remember so I could “read” it to momma. Taught a good lesson of trying something because you just might like it.

Barb Ullman The Fairies of Nutfolk Wood 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Tommy Age 8

I like the book because it talks about nature a little bit. I like it when Willa sees the little people. I also like it when Mrs. Wicket tells her stories. It is cool how Mrs. Wicket keeps her house running without electric.

Phyllis Root Looking for a Moose 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Jacob Age 2 1/2

We have read this book over and over again! Jacob loves helping the children find the moose (even when they can’t). The text is fun for him to say (repeat) – he even has most of the book memorized! A great read!!

Jake – I like when the moose says “oo-roog” at the end!

Molly Coxe 6 Sticks 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Joshua Age 2

Joshua really enjoyed how the mouse used the sticks in this story. I would recommend this book as a read aloud, as you can count the sticks with the child on each page. Joshua really likes the page where the sticks make the whiskers of a cat. The illustrations are very descriptive. Joshua really likes the end of the book where the mice make a mouse clubhouse.

Linda Ashman To The Beach 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Faith Age 2

We loved this story! The pictures were very entertaining and the adventures that the character faced were not so different from the ones our family experiences when getting ready for a family outing. The rhyming-style was very catchy and had my children reading along and finishing the sentences. Such a fun book to read, one time through is not enough. “To the Beach” has become one of our favorites.

Sarah Weeks Bunny Fun 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Allie Age 2

We enjoyed this book because it was very fun and easy to understand on a 2 year old level. The pictures were cute, bright and colorful. Allie had a smile on her face for the whole story. The bunny seemed to be much like a 2 year old. We really liked the story and it kept her attention really well.

Andrea Pinnington Big Girls Use the Potty 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Marissa Age 2

Marissa liked this book because she is learning to use the potty like a big girl. She liked the teddy bear and little girl featured in the book. She enjoyed learning about each of the steps in potty training. Hopefully she will be successful soon!

Linda Bailey Stanley at Sea 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Kelley Age 6

We loved all the adventures Stanley went on. It had good pictures. We liked all Stanley’s friends and how they acted on all the places they visited. We especially liked when they all jumped in the red boat.

David Slonim He Came With the Couch 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Jack Age 5

This is a funny book with a cute character. The character didn’t seem real in the beginning, but then he saved the little girl. The illustrations are colorful and funny. The ending is wonderful. This is a great read-aloud for pre K or K readers.

Satoru Onishi Who’s Hiding 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Anna Age 5

Anna says: “I liked it because everyone was so sneaky and pretends to hide”. “I liked the animals because of the colors and they were so cute”.

Mom says: “I liked it because it had lots of things to discuss; colors, shapes, feelings and animals. It has memory recall and problem solving starts easy and gets more complex.

Melanie Walsh Do Monkeys Tweet 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Dyllan Age 4

Dyllan like the book because it had animals in it. This book is good for children who are learning to read. The print is big and the book uses small words. Our favorite part is when it asked if bunnies oinked…. then we got to see pictures of a pig. Pigs are our favorite animals.

Hope you enjoyed the reviews, have fun reading this summer.

Be Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Program is well underway and the reviews are pouring in. We still have quite a few to post from last year so I am hoping to get most of them up before I start on the new batch. Here are a group of reviews written by 10 year olds that sound so interesting, I think you won’t be able to resist picking them up at the library. Lots of adventure, mystery and fantasy books to tempt your eyes are waiting for you at the library.

Diane Wilson Black Storm Coming 4 Star Review

Reviewed by Reaghen Age 10

When I was reading this book I could not put it down! I would love to meet Colten Wescott because he is so brave. I could never deliver the pony express mail like he could. The saddest part was when Little Willy died. I hope there will be a sequel to this book.

Brandon Mull The Candy Shop War 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Lynell Age 10

I read the “Candy Shop War” by Brandon Mull. There were 4 main characters: Nate, Summer, Trevor & Pigeon. One day they were going home from school & it was a very hot day, so they went to the Sweet Tooth Candy Shop. The person who owned the store (Mrs. White) had magic candy. There were Moon Rocks that you would suck on, chocolate that would make you blend in with your surroundings. But then this guy shows up around town and says “Nate, Summer, Pigeon, Trevor you can’t trust Mrs. White!” So who should they trust? The mysterious man going around town? Or should they trust Mrs. White.

Lesley M. M. Blume Cornelia and the Audacious Escapades of the Somerset Sisters 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Danielle Age 10

The book I liked the most was Cornelia. The funniest part of this book was when they were in Paris and pronounced the word DOG wrong and the Somerset Sisters got 4 French Bulldogs. My friends should read this because there’s so many places they visited and so many adventures they have gone through. I would love to meet Cornelia. She could teach me some of the enormous words she knows! I would definitely read this again!

Also Reviewed by Esther Age 10

I loved this book. I really liked the stories Virginia told. I loved the story about Morocco. I think that kids should read this book because it tells you about the world! I absolutely LOVED this book!

M.C. Delaney Deep Doo Doo 4 Star Review

Reviewed by Jimmy Age 10

The funniest part of the book was when they found the pumpkin on the flagpole! Anyone who likes mysteries should read this book! It’s really interesting! I would like to meet the computergeek/inventer .

Susan Fletcher Dragon’s Milk 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Abigail Age 10 3/4

“Dragon’s Milk” is a wonderfully thrilling story of a girl who has the gift to talk to dragons. I would like to meet Kaeldra. She could tell me all about dragons. I think “The Dragon Chronicles” is a great series of books.

Paul Stewart Fergus Crane 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Audrey Age 10

The saddest part of this book is that the boy, Fergus Crane, used to have a father but was not found before Fergus was born. My friends would probably like this book because there are questions hanging in your head when you want to know what happens next. I would like to meet Fergus Crane in person someday (or the person who created him because this story is fantasy). This story includes a lot of bravery, friendship and macadacchio nuts!

J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Sebastian Age 10

I would like to meet Bilbo Baggins, the main character in “The Hobbit”. He puts his phrases in funny ways when he’s scared, for example: when he was on a giant eagle he said: Now I know how a piece of bacon feels when someone puts it in a pan, fries it then puts it back on the shelf. Also Bilbo is a hobbit, which means he is short, and doesn’t need shoes because his skin is tougher than ours. In addition, he is adventurous, unlike other hobbits.

Andrew Clements The Janitor’s Boy 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Brittany Age 10

This is a very good book. The scariest part was when Jack was going into the tunnel underground. It was scary because there was barely any light in the tunnel. I would not like to meet Jack because he would get me into a lot of trouble. I would like to meet his dad because his dad was in the war and I would like to learn about the war.

Gordon Korman Kidnapped: The Abduction 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Hannah Age 10 1/2

The was one of the best books I have ever read! It was scary when 10 year old Meg was kidnapped. This book is one in a series of three books, so you have to read all three to find out what happens. My friends should read this book because it is filled with action and suspense. I have read many Gordon Korman books and he is a great author.

Henry Winkler Life of Me: Enter At Your Own Risk 5 Star Review

The funniest part of the book was when Hank accidentally called his teacher a girl. The saddest part was when Zoe broke up with Hank. The scariest part was when Nick got mad at Hank. My friends should read this book because it’s very funny. I would like to meet Hank Zipzer.

Katy Kelly Lucy Rose Big on Plans 4 Star Review

Reviewed by Madison Age 10

I really liked “Lucy Rose Big on Plans” . The funniest part was when Lucy Rose and her friend flooded their grandma and grandpa’s basement. I think my friend should read it because I really enjoyed the book. If I could meet one of the characters it would be Lucy Rose because she always has an adventure.

E.D. Baker Once Upon a Curse 4.5 Star Review

The book “Once Upon a Curse” is a great book that is part of a great series. I think one of the characters I’d like to meet is Emma. She is one main character. Everyone should read this fantastic series. This book is full of magic and mystery.

I love this book because I never wanted to put the book down. My favorite character was Poppy because she was so brave. I love how the author made the story exciting. The author described the settings wonderfully. I liked how Ereth (the porcupine) had so many different expressions. “Poppy and Rye” is a great book.

The saddest part was when they tried to back Star too early. Because it is about horses and they are really awesome animals. I would like to meet Christina because she loves horses, just like me. My favorite part was when Christina came to work with Star at Townsend Acres. My favorite horse is Star. I think everyone should read it because it’s just a great book!

It’s hard to believe that school is ending and our Summer Reading Program begins today. Be Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Program begins June 1 – August 1. There are tons of great prizes and think of all of the fun you can have reading through the summer. I am still going through the 1000’s of reviews from last year and will be looking forward to all of the new reviews we will be getting in. I am posting a fun group of book reviews today that I hope you will all enjoy.

Be sure to check out my blogroll, the Children’s Program is filled with the great children’s programs we will be offering in June and July for everyone in the county. Time to start planning all of the fun stuff you can do at the library all summer long.

M. Christina Butler One Winter’s Day 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Emily Age 4

This is a sweet book about sharing. It shows you that when you share with others good things will happen. The pictures are very cute. Emily especially liked the picture where Little Hedgehog became a prickly snowball! This is her favorite book.

Howie Schneider Chewy Louie 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Dominic Age 4 1/2

I have a husky whom I love very much! He is my brother dog! Someday I will get another smaller dog like Louie and hopefully he won’t chew! I have never seen a dog chew up so much! I highly recommend this silly, funny book for anyone whom owns a dog!

Tony Johnston The Barn Owls 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Alex Age 4

I liked the story because I learned about Barn Owls. I liked the pictures too. It’s a good book to read aloud because the words are easy to understand and the pictures are fun to look at. Everything about the book is special!

Eileen Spinelli Callie Cat, Ice Skater 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Faith Age 4

We liked this book because we love cats and we love to skate. She was the best skater in her town. She didn’t win the contest but if you try your hardest you can feel good about yourself.

Karma Wilson Sake Alive! A Cattle Drive 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Emily and parent Age 4

Emily and I enjoyed the book because it was funny to see the cows driving a car. I would recommend this book as a read aloud, as it is very engaging to children. It is fun for the children to see the cows as they drive through the town. The illustrations are very colorful and add to the story. The repetition of the phrase, “Sakes Alive” throughout the story helped get Emily more involved with the words in the book.

Coleman Polhemus The Crocodile Blues 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Miles Age 4

“The Crocodile Blues” is truly a picture book. We enjoyed telling the story. Our favorite pictures were the egg cracking revealing a crocodile in the refrigerator. The pictures are COOL!

Catherine & Laurence Anholt Happy Birthday Chimp and Zee

Reviewed by Delanie Age 4 5 Star Review

We enjoyed this book because we love monkeys and birthdays! The book held our attention because we couldn’t wait to find out the surprise for the twin monkeys at the end of the book. The book used wonderful adjectives and sound words. At the end, the book flaps unfolded to reveal the surprise.

Eileen Christelow Five Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek

Reviewed by Sarah Age 4 1/2 5 Star Review

We enjoyed this book because the 5 Little Monkeys are always fun. This story had the great rhyming text and fun illustrations. It involves the kid favorite game of hide and seek and you get to try and find where the monkeys are hiding as well. It also shows the numbers and encourages children to count higher than 10.

Keltie Thomas How Baseball Works 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Ryan Age 5 3/4

I like this book because it tells you all kinds of things about baseball. Also because it shows how the curveball goes around 3 poles in a straight line and it shows you how to throw all the different pitches.

Jean, Dan & Dave Marzollo Football Friends 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Cole Age 9

It was sad that Mark and Freddy was fighting all the time and I was scared that one of them would get hurt. I think my friends should read this book to show them we can get along. I would like to meet Mark and Freddy.

Laura Numeroff If You Give a Mouse a Cookie 5 Star Review

Reviewed by David Age 3 1/2

We always enjoy Laura Numeroff’s books. We especially love trying to guess what the mouse will do next. The author’s simple reasoning and logic inspire us to create our own sequential stories at home. This is a great read-aloud book for kids of all ages.

Lois Lowry The Giver 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Lauren Age 10

The book was sad when Jonas saw the tape and they watched a baby being released. It was happy when Jonas started to see animals. My friends should read this book because it was scary, happy and sad and I really liked the book. I really liked this book and I’m going to read it again.

Enjoy the summer and be sure to leave a comment about the books, the summer reading program or any other library program you participate in.

I’ve saved some really good book reviews for you today. Here are lots of non-fiction titles with a few fun fiction books for good measure.

Lauren loved this book because she got to learn about the animals she loves.

Patricia C. Wrede Revenge of the Sith 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Keyton Age 8

If you like Star Wars you will like this book. This is a good book because of all the battles. I like the part where they are in space dodging lasers. At the end Obi-Wan and Anakin fight each other. You’ll have to read it to find out what happens.

Jamie Lee Curtis & Laura Cornell I’m Gonna Like Me 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Lillian Age 5

I like the characters because one of them wears a hat. On her clothes she always has flowers. Her hair is always in pigtails. I also like her because she always carries a green little box with her.

Laura Seeger Lemons Are Not Red 5 Star Review

Some things are not supposed to be those colors. The carrot was purple and the eggplant was supposed to be purple. It’s a great book and it’s really, really true.

Katherine Holabird Angelina At the Palace 5 Star Review

I liked the dance the ballerinas did in the book. I liked the pretty dresses and costumes. I liked seeing a castle. I thought it was neat that Angelina was the dance teacher this time!

Pat Hutchins The Doorbell Rang 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Elizabeth Age 5

I enjoyed this book because there were lots of cookies. It was funny because the doorbell rang alot. My favorite part of the book was when Grandma had lots of cookies. One fact that I know is that there were lots of children.

Elaine Pascoe Bugs 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Brady Age 4

We read a book titled “Bugs”. One of the reasons that we enjoyed the book so much was because of all of the photographs of real bugs. There were many cool bugs in the book that we had never seen before. We learned a lot about bugs from this book.

David A. Aguilar Planets, Stars and Galaxies 5 Star Review

Reviewed by Evan Age 9

This book is full of information about our universe. My favorite part of the book was about Earth’s moon. My least favorite part of the book was about aliens and UFO’s. Read this book, you’ll be glad you did.

David West Reynolds Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary

5 Star Review Reviewed by Michael Age 4

I like the book because I can get it at the library. Also, they have mad guys (bad guys). No, you don’t do that because it hurts peoples ears, when you read it out loud. You have to be loud with the mad guys. I feel happy when I look at the pictures of the good guys and the mad guys.

Thanks for reading our reviews, I’ll be back soon with more fun reads for all ages.
